As a warming hut volunteer, your role is to create a welcoming and safe environment for skiers and their families. Each shift is staffed by two volunteers who are to stay in the warming hut. Here's what you'll do:

Place the lost-and-found bin outside during your shift and bring it back in at the end of the night.

Track Visitors

Record the number of visitors on the clipboard.

Note Feedback

Write down any suggestions or questions from guests, including contact information if they request a follow-up.

This year we are having the Clubhouse open for FNSC families during ski lessons. We are forming a small Committee of interested parents to get the clubhouse ready. Let's make the clubhouse a welcoming place for our Foothills families!

Commitment includes a 1.5 hour meeting on November 24 6:30-8 at the Clubhouse for us to review last year’s vision, feedback and then 2 hours on other days to get everything in place. If this work requires more than the listed 4 hours, your additional hours will be counted.

The kids who ski the 5km, 3km, 2km, 1km, and 0.5km courses receive candy bags at the finish line. This makes them very happy. Your job is to prepare about 250 candy bags in the days before the race. Report to Ginette Quintilio, Chief of Jackrabbits, who will direct you as to how many Jackrabbit racers have registered for the race, and therefore now many candy bags you need to prepare. You will have to purchase the candy, and the ski club will reimburse your expenses.

Description: Ride (as a passenger) on the ATV up to Elk Pass, help bury aid station supplies in snow. Wear warm clothes. You can ski down from Elk Pass if you want – it’s like cat skiing!

Ski a 16km loop (Elkwood-Boulton-Elkwood) placing flags and signs as you go. To do this job, you must be a strong skier able to carry a backpack or pull a pulk. Report to Scott Jensen, Chief of Course. Check in at Pocaterra Hut at start of your shift.

Ski a 15km loop (Pocaterra-Elkwood-Pocaterra) placing flags and signs. Must be a strong skier able to carry a heavy pack.

Ski an 18km loop (Boulton-Elk Pass-Boulton) placing flags and signs as you go. To do this job you must be a strong skier, able to ski while carry a backpack or a pulk full of signs and flags. Report to Scott Jensen, Chief of Course. Check in at Pocaterra Hut at the start of your shift.

Help the PLPP trail crew to shovel snow to prepare the kids’ course for the Cookie Race. The kids’ course is just across the highway from Pocaterra Hut. Wear warm clothes and be ready to get some exercise.

Attend two pre-race meetings, monitor course conditions in weeks before race, wrangle and oversee course volunteers.

Establish and provide communications between Pocaterra and remote course locations. Report to Jeremy Myers, Chief of Competition.

Race and help at the finish line.

Ferry people and gear from Elk Pass parking lot to the Elk Pass feed station on the club's tracked ATV. Requires provincial operators course certificate. Report to the Chief of Refreshments. Check in at Pocaterra Hut at the start of your shift.

Remain near Pocaterra hut during race, ready to provide medical attention in the unlikely event of an emergency. Report to Ann Lohka, Chief of Race Office and a registered nurse. Check in at Pocaterra hut at start of your shift.

Serve cookies and soup to racers and volunteers. Report to Maz Bouz, Chief of Refreshments. Check in at the soup tent outside Pocaterra Hut at the start of your shift.

Ski 4km from hut to Pocaterra/Lynx junction, direct skiers to stay on course.

JR Sweep 2km/1km/0.5km + marshall (ski course after racers finish, move v-boards) Duties: Follow the last skier in each category (2km/1km/0.5km). For each category the boys will start first, and then the girls a few minutes later. Move v-boards after the 1km categories go through. You will work with the Chief of Jackrabbits during the race. Must be a reasonable skier. Report to Chief of Jackrabbits. Check in at Pocaterra hut at start of your shift. Volunteer hours: 3. Volunteer positions: 1.

JR 2km/1km/0.5km finish line (congratulate kids at finish, hand out candy bags)

Cheer on young skiers and keep them on course. You can wear boots or skis.

With your truck or SUV, tow the Nordiq Alberta trailer from Pocaterra Hut to Confederation Park. Depart from Pocaterra after the race at about 4:30pm. This trailer has a 2" hitch, a standard cylindrical electrcial plug, and weighs about 2000lbs. Report to transportation co-ordinator Tom Lambert.

Ski 0.5km from the Boulton parking lot to Whiskey Jack junction, near the Boulton food station, where the Whiskey Jack trail begins. Record bib numbers as the 42km skiers pass you and begin the big climb up Whiskey Jack. Dress warmly! Report to Steve Layden, Chief of Controllers. Ski 0.5km from the Boulton parking lot to the Boulton food station. Stand at the road crossing, where the skiers cross the road and start up the Packers trail toward the finish line. Record bib numbers as the 24km and 42km skiers cross the road and begin the climb up Packers. Dress warmly! Report to Steve Layden, Chief of Controllers. Check in at Pocaterra Hut at the start of your shift. Controllers ensure that all skiers return safely!

Stand in the bib tent (just outside Pocaterra Hut), smile, and hand out bibs and transponders to registered skiers as they arrive for the race. Dress warmly! Report to Ann Lohka, Chief of Race Office

With your truck, tow the club's Defender trailer to Good Time Party Rentals (4605 76th Ave SE) to return rental gear, then to Confed golf course to unhitch. This trailer has a 2 5/16" hitch, a standard cylindrical electrical plug, and weighs about 5000lbs. Report to transportation coordinator Jeremy Myers.

Responsible for being key contact for parents and to communicate with the team.  Organize team social activities for athletes and parents.  Liaise with coaches, biathlon manager, other coordinators (XC and Biathlon) and parents.

We are seeking a dedicated Ski Fun Day Lead to help bring to life two exciting community events for Foothills Nordic Ski Club:

In this leadership role, you will help plan, coordinate, and support two fun-filled days of skiing activities designed to bring together FNSC program participants, families, and friends. Your efforts will help create a welcoming and engaging environment for our young skiers and the broader community.

Key Responsibilities:

Represent Foothills at Bow Corridor Regional Race Series

We’re looking for a proactive, community-minded leader to take the reins in getting the Foothills Nordic Clubhouse ready for the season. The Clubhouse will be open for FNSC families during ski lessons, and we want it to be a warm, welcoming hub for our community. As the Clubhouse Coordinator, you will lead a small committee of parent volunteers to develop a vision, create a plan, and oversee the setup of the space.

Assist the performance coaches deliver programming

This role involves setting up the volunteer registration and tracking system, checking in volunteers, and assigning tasks. The position requires calmness under pressure, patience, and comfort with computers. You will also be the go-to person for volunteers on race days.

This position focuses on organizing refreshments and prizes, arranging for food deliveries, and managing logistics at the finish area. It involves some pre-race organization, but you will have the chance to watch the races as well.
